- Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is a traditional festival celebrated in many countries around the world, most famously in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. It’s the last day of the Carnival season, a period of festivities and celebrations that begins on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and culminates on the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of Lent, a time of fasting and penitence in the Christian calendar.
